About 4LoveofDog.com

On this site, you will find resources to learn about everything a dog needs for a healthy and happy life. We love dogs!

This site was created by dog lovers, to serve as an unbiased source of information, based on the latest research. Although we are grounded very firmly in science and research we also see the need to present important new information for dog owners when it proves very promising.

We try very hard to be an unbiased source of reliable information. But when we find something we feel is extraordinary, such as the raw diet, we must report the amazing benefits as well as the cautions.

We spent years reviewing the research on dog nutrition and commercial dog food studies. We analyzed the methodologies behind the larger university-based studies and reviewed the statistics. We became knowledgeable of the history of dog food, industry practices, and the poor testing and dubious approval of commercial dog foods. Dog lovers need to know the disturbing information we found.

Our Mission:

To increase education for the betterment of dogs and their owners.

We believe if you feed 'em right, train 'em right, treat 'em right, you will have a long, happy and best possible relationship with man's best friend.

We seek to provide answers to the care, feeding, and treatment of your best friend...your dog. We want potential dog owners to know the responsibilities, and requirements (heck, everything) about a dog they are considering.

We also want people to be more aware of the choices they have --- to question everything! We suggest that you don't just blindly follow what you hear from advertising. Research, ask questions, consult with your vet, and don't be rushed into decisions.

Do it right!

At first glance, many of our recommendations may seem to be slightly controversial, as with minimal vaccinations and the raw diet (AKA-"BARF"). We present all sides of the information, and a historical perspective. You need to know what is best, so read everything we present. You and your dog will be glad you did.

The Name 4Love of Dog

Our name tells why we began this site. The name says why we don't seek a profit. It is all 4 the love of dogs.

About 4LoveofDog Logo

Our logo was inspired by a very impressive dog who loves to run. Sheila is difficult to capture on video as she is so fast and always off running. We managed to catch her on digital video during one of our weekend dog runs. Sheila was spotted running across a ridge, and slowing down to rejoin the pack. A brief Quick Time version (1470KB) is here. The same video in Windows Media (778KB) is here. The videos are 320X200 and take about 20-30 seconds to load on fast connections.

The logo was drawn by Amanda Gibney of Texas, a Siberian Husky dog breeder. Her kennel name is Kyrie Siberians and is located in Elgin just outside Austin, Texas. Visit her web site here.

2003 Update!

American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) adopts new vaccination guidelines for 2003 that reflect our position.

Nutrition Courses

Courses in nutrition at medical, veterinary and nursing schools are not as good as they need to be, nor are they always required for graduation.

It is a fact and a shame that only a few medical researchers understand nutrition better than the nutritional anthropologists.

Until experimental methodology, analysis, and scope improves, students of nutrition would be better served if nutrition textbooks presented historical facts of how different cultures spent centuries of eating and cooking than relying on poor studies.

The failure to improve the science, rigor, methodology, duration and sample size of nutritional studies are major mistakes that leaves human as well as animal health at risk.
